Daily Devotion: Tuesday, Feb. 23
February 22, 2010 @ 9:37 pm“Open my eyes that I may see the wonders of your law.”
(Psalm 119:18)
The Hebrew word we translate as “law” is perhaps best understood as “teaching” or “instruction.” For Jews this instruction is referred to as Torah. For Christians, an essential summary of the teaching is found in the Beatitudes, part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-12, or Luke 6:20-26, where it’s called The Sermon on the Plain). Read the Beatitudes slowly, and reread them several times. Pray for a sense of wonder, the ability to receive the gift of this teaching with awe and delight.
Prayer: Teach me to love your law, O God.
