Daily Devotion: Tuesday, March 23

March 22, 2010 @ 8:52 pm by Shelaine

Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.” (Ps. 85:10)

Caring for our neighbors as ourselves demands acts of benevolence and charity.  It also demands acts of truth-telling and confrontation.  As we say “Yes” to the good, we must also say “No” to the evil, speaking truth to power and calling for the transfiguration of anything that is contrary to the kingdom of God.  Often it is more comfortable to participate in charitable works than it is to work for justice.  Is there an injustice that you can confront, by writing a letter to the editor of your local paper or to your representatives in Congress, or by raising a concern with your church session or the appropriate committee of your presbytery?

Prayer: Righteous God, give me a hunger and a thirst for your kingdom and keep me restless in its absence.
