Both the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke describe Jesus’ crucifixion as a time of spiritual as well as physical agony, as Jesus on the cross quotes this passage from Psalm 22. Even in his dying, it appears, Jesus shared our human experience of abandonment by God. Have you ever gone through a time when you felt that God was absent?
Prayer: Eternal God, I pray on behalf of those who cannot pray to you themselves, who cannot believe in your love, and who feel abandoned by you.
