Daily Devotion: Holy Saturday
April 3, 2010 @ 8:35 am“Why are you so full of heaviness, O my soul? And why are you so disquieted within me?” (Psalm 43:5)
On the darkest night of the liturgical year, between the crucifixion and the resurrection, the church observes the Great Vigil of Easter. The faithful gather in darkness to sing, to pray and to tell again the story of salvation. We remember God’s mighty acts in creation and redemption, in the liberation of the Exodus, in the words of the prophets, and in the life and death and resurrection of Jesus. In addition to reading Scripture today, take a moment to hold your Bible in your hand. How long have you had this Bible, and how did you come by it? Feel its weight in your hands, the solidness of it.
Prayer: God of the Ages, thank you for the testimony of Scripture and the ongoing story of salvation.
