“You have turned my wailing into dancing.” Ps. 30:11)

Think of a time in your life when you were disconsolate, bereft or deeply pained. Think of your body as potter’s clay, and form your body into the shape of that distress. After a few moments, think of a time of great joy, and allow your body to give form to that feeling, moving your head and arms and whole body in a way that expresses joy.

Prayer: Gracious One, receive all my pain and all my joy.

“So I will bless you as long as I live
and lift up my hands in your name.” (Ps. 63:4)

The posture of praying with uplifted hands is an ancient one that most of us rarely use these days. Try praying with arms upraised, face and eyes open, hands stretching toward the ceiling. You may just let the posture itself be your prayer, or recite a verbal prayer such as the Lord’s Prayer. How does the prayer feel different from when you say it sitting down?

Prayer: God, you are my All. May I praise you with all my being.
