St. Andrews Presbyterian Church
The Mission Committee of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church is dedicated to following the biblical mandate to be mindful of the needs of others and to place the work of/for God’s kingdom as the priority for the life of the church. We take our direction to tithe the resources of the congregation for mission seriously. Our emphasis is on both local and national/international mission. We choose to support the mission goals and projects of the Presbytery and Synod and national Presbyterian Church (USA). Our program emphasis allows us to make decisions in our yearly planning as to which specific designated mission projects we wish to support. We feel it wise to have personal connections with the projects decided on and strive to involve the entire congregation in mission, whether by being personally active, contributing monetarily, or supporting the programs with prayer.
Specific areas of focus:
- Denominational Mission offerings – One Great Hour of Sharing, Peacemaking, Christmas Joy – gaining yearly Session approval, ordering materials in conjunction with the Administrative Assistant and determining responsibility among committee members for presentations to the congregation.
- Habitat for Humanity – receiving reports from the Habitat Task Force representatives for the congregation, gaining Session approval for items needing it.
- Fund raisers – Dental Clinics North and Benzie Area Christian Neighbors (BACN) – yearly decision concerning how these two local areas of concern will be funded.
- Thanksgiving Baskets – organizing collection and distribution of baskets in conjunction with local agencies that have information regarding those in specific need.
- Designated giving – decision-making re: which areas of focus the committee desires to cover and presenting these needs to the congregation through minutes for mission and the Newsletter.
- Equal Exchange Coffee Project – support through the work of two volunteers in the congregation who order and organize the process and sell coffee on the first and third Sundays of each month.
- Review/discussion of special requests for consideration for support as received.
- Friendship Ministries, the second Tuesday of each month, September thru May it is a program for adult developmentally disabled, is coordinated by volunteersin the congregation and on the Mission Committee. It is an ecumenical effort with funding through the BenzieCounty Ministerial Association. Participants come on the second Monday of each month for a time of fellowshipas we share God's love.
